New York Part VI - Transportation

Our last day in New York was centered around transportation: First we walked to Grand Central Station, another beautifully restored New York treasure.

The space is immense and beautiful to look at. Sure is more impressive than those ugly German railroad stations I well remember!

Then we took a cab down to Battery Park and went on a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. The Ferry ride is free and provides a very nice tour of the waterfront and views of attractions, such as Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty and Governor's Island:

It was hazy, but we enjoyed a last look at lady Liberty nevertheless

We then returned to the Warwick on the Subway - SUCCESSFULLY this time! From there we had a limo take us back to Maplewood to pick up Baby (now largely without the Badlands dust we had picked up in South Dakota)

We had planned to visit Thomas Alva Edison in Menlo Park but unfortunately, the museum and the tower are closed for remodeling. We did look at the outside and yes, it needs work badly. The site is sad looking, neglected. The building housing the "museum" is a little shack. If you go to the website you can see the rather grandiose plans for a real museum. I hope they will find someone to give them the money needed to do this. The state of New Jersey is obviously not interested.

We spent the night in Edison and I had the oddest food of the entire trip. However, the portions were large! Maybe Nick is right - on the road we should just live on Energy bars and gatorade.

And now we are off to return home, but first: Richmond, VA and then the Old South
