Monmouth (Natchez)
We stayed at the historic Monmouth Plantation in Natchez and it was a wonderful experience. Monmouth was the home of General Quitman a hero of the Mexican-American war and a southern "fire-eater" - an ardent advocate of secession from the Union. Today it is a hotel, we were fortunate to be able to book the Riches Suite, a truly lovely set of rooms in the main house. Below are pictures of our bedroom and sitting room, below that the dining room and two pictures of the original wall paper that was discovered during the restoration of the house.

Originial wallpaper - handpainted in France, Jackie Kennedy liked it so much she had it reproduced for the White House. It was discovered under seven layers of paper! It was interesting to learn that after the current owners restored the house, they were able to acquire a number of orginial furnishings dating to the time when the Quitman family lived at Monmouth.
We not only enjoyed spending two night s in the lavishly decorated suite, but we also had an excellent dinner in elegant surroundings, as well as wonderful breakfasts. I actually ate and enjoyed French Toast for the first time!
Below are is a picture of the terrace and a few pictures of the extensive and beautifully landscaped gardens. Of course, we were here at the wrong time, but it was lovely nevertheless.
Above Cypress trees and their rather peculiar roots (the knobs next to the trees). Cypress wood is not eaten by termites and withstands the ravages of the evil Southern climate - we need this in SoCal
