Requirements
- Student organizations are required to deposit and expend all funds collected on behalf of the student organization in an Agency account through the Associated Students, Inc. at California State University, Northridge (A.S.).
- Student organizations that are required through national affiliation or by affiliated local organizations with a separate 501(c)(3) status to hold an off-campus bank account may do so with approval of the Vice President for Financial Services (or designee).

Requesting an Exemption
To request approval to bank off-campus the student organization President or Treasurer must submit the CSUN Student Organization Banking Exemption Request form by Monday March 31, 2025 at 11:59pm and provide the following documents:
- A letter from the national or local affiliated organization specifying the requirement or mandate for the student organization to bank off-campus. The affiliated organization must use the following bank exemption letter template.
- A copy of the affiliate’s current and completed Form 990.
- If the affiliated organization has 501(c)(3) status, but is not required to submit to the IRS a Form 990, the student organization can submit the affiliate’s Form W-9.
- Use this email template to contact the affiliate organization to request a copy of Form 990 or Form W9
- Approval is provided at the discretion of the Associate Vice President of Financial Services.
- Incomplete submissions will NOT be considered.
Required Documents for Organizations Previously Approved to Bank Off-Campus
- If the student organization previously received approval to bank off-campus, the President or Treasurer must provide a copy of the affiliate’s Form 990 or Form W9.
- A W9 form can be submitted only if the affiliate organization has 501(c)(3) status, but is NOT required to submit Form 990 for tax purposes.
- The President or Treasurer can use this email template to contact the affiliate organization to request a copy of Form 990 or Form W9.
- The President or Treasurer must submit the affiliates Form 990 or Form W9 using the Off-Campus Bank Exemption Form 990 or W9 Submission form by Monday March 31, 2025 at 11:59pm.
Training Requirement
- The President and Treasurer for student organizations that have applied for approval to bank off campus, must complete the Off-Campus Bank Account training as part of the application process.
- For student organization’s previously approved to bank off campus, the President and Treasurer is required to complete the training annually while the account is open.

Request for sign language interpreters must be received at least five (5) business days prior to the event date. The MIC will attempt to accommodate requests received five (5) business days in advance. Please note due to limited staffing and increased demand, request for interpreters may not be accommodated.
