CSUN highlights Carisa Barron and Jorge Solorzano as the Student-Athletes of the Week for their outstanding performances in volleyball and men’s soccer respectively. Barron recorded double-doubles in CSUN’s matches at the Portland Invitational, narrowly missing a second triple-double of the season. Solorzano scored twice in a 1-1-1 week, including a crucial penalty kick against UCLA. With four goals this season, Solorzano is a key player for the Matadors. -- BVM Sports
Advit Raghavan joins CSUN women’s basketball coaching staff as assistant coach
Advit Raghavan has joined the women’s basketball coaching staff at California State Northridge Matadors. Raghavan brings valuable experience to the team, having previously served as the director of basketball operations at Southern Utah University. He was instrumental in the team’s success, helping them win titles in the Western Athletic Conference and securing a spot in the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament. Raghavan’s expertise in player development, scouting, and program management will be an asset to the Matadors. Food drive for CSUN Food Pantry: The Community Concerns Committee at First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills holds a non-perishable food drive to help stock the food pantry at Cal State University, Northridge, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and also 8:30-11 a.m. Sept. 24. The pantry benefits students who do not have much income for food while school is in session. Current needs: canned or boxed food items and hygiene items. No glass containers or past-date items. John Moriarity Obituary
John served as President of the San Fernando Valley Business and Professional Association, the San Fernando Valley Lincoln Club, and the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Van Nuys Chamber of Commerce, the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce, and the Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was also a member of the 51st District Agriculture Fair Board, appointed by Governor Wilson, and a member of the Advisory Committee for California State University, Northridge. In addition, John was the Western States Commander for the Order of St. Lazarus for 10 years and also served as Grand Commander. A musician who played several instruments and former member of the UCLA Bruin Marching Band and UCLA Alumni Band, John was a Founder of the Dorothy Chandler Music Center, member of the Board of Governors for the Glendale Symphony Orchestra, and served as Vice President for the Beverly Hills Pops. Lastly, he was involved in Little League for 19 years as a manager, coach, and umpire for his sons and their teammates in Van Nuys and Woodland Hills-Sunrise. -- Legacy.com

It is the 100th anniversary of the Martha Graham Dance Company, the longest-running dance company in the nation.
