Cal Poly Mustangs sweep CSUN Matadors with a dominating 3-0 victory

Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Lizzy Markovska led the charge for the Cal Poly Mustangs as they earned a 3-0 sweep over CSUN on Thursday. Markovska recorded 11 kills, while four other Mustangs contributed with at least five kills each. Cal Poly’s defense proved dominant, holding CSUN to a .084 hitting percentage. The Mustangs took control of the match in the first set, pulled away in the second, and comfortably secured the victory in the third. With this win, Cal Poly now sits in fourth place in the Big West standings and will face CSU Bakersfield next. -- BVM Sports

CSUN’s Ashley Cruz Makes History as First Student-Athlete to Return for Seventh Season

Ashley Cruz, a graduate student on the CSUN women’s soccer team, has made history by returning for a seventh season, a first for any Matador team. Despite facing challenges such as multiple ACL injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic, Cruz has persevered and emerged as a top scoring threat. In addition to her athletic success, Cruz has excelled academically and been recognized for her commitment to her studies. She is currently enrolled in the master’s program for Public Health and has an internship at a local medical center. Cruz’s dedication and determination have left a lasting impact on the CSUN Women’s Soccer program. -- BVM Sports

Jamar Ricketts leads CSUN to 2-1 victory over UC San Diego

Jamar Ricketts scored two goals to lead CSUN to a 2-1 victory over UC San Diego. Ricketts’ goal in the 85th minute broke the tie and secured three crucial points for CSUN in The Big West standings. The first half was a back-and-forth battle with both teams generating chances. Ricketts opened the scoring seconds into the second half, but UCSD equalized in the 51st minute. However, Ricketts’ second goal in the 85th minute sealed the win for CSUN. The victory boosts CSUN’s overall record to 4-6-6 and their league record to 2-3-2. -- BVM Sports

CSUN Women’s Volleyball Team to Face Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara in Back-to-Back Matches

CSUN women’s volleyball team returns home to host Cal Poly on Thursday before traveling to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. The Matadors look to build on their recent win against Cal State Fullerton and continue their progress in the Big West conference. Cal Poly is coming off a loss to UC Santa Barbara, while UC Santa Barbara remains unbeaten in conference play. CSUN players Kelsey Knudsen, Paige Sentes, Taylor Hunter, and Tatiana Turgeon continue to rank in the top-20 in Big West statistical categories. CSUN Women’s Soccer suffers 4-0 defeat against dominant Cal Poly

The CSUN Women’s Soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat against Cal Poly in a Big West matchup. CSUN generated some early chances but couldn’t find the back of the net, while Cal Poly took advantage of turnovers to grab the lead. CSUN goalkeeper Hayden Mauldin made several impressive saves, but Cal Poly managed to score three more goals in the second half. CSUN drops to 1-12-3 overall and 1-4-2 in Big West play, while Cal Poly improves to 7-5-3 overall and 5-1-1 in league action. Jamar Ricketts collected his second Offensive Player of the Week award of the year while Merrick Cook was awarded with Defensive and Freshman Player of the Week in what would be an undefeated week for CSUN on the pitch. -- BVM Sports

CSUN Women’s Volleyball Team Dominates Cal State Fullerton with 3-0 Sweep

The CSUN women’s volleyball team showcased their impressive hitting skills in a 3-0 sweep against Cal State Fullerton. Led by Leah Miller’s match-high 11 kills, the Matadors hit over .300 for the first time in eight matches. Carisa Barron and Perri Starkey also contributed with 10 kills each. Barron recorded a season-high .500 hitting percentage, while Starkey achieved her sixth double-double of the season. CSUN dominated the match, hitting .308 with 44 kills and limiting the Titans to a .134 hitting clip. The Matadors’ strong performance secured their second consecutive win against Cal State Fullerton. -- BVM Sports
