Studio Ensemble

Studio Ensemble is a student group dedicated to the study of popular music styles and playing/recording techniques through the preparation and performance of published and student-arranged literature.

Student players/arrangers learn sight-reading from lead sheets, improvising solos, transposing at sight, and studio session protocol. The ensemble accepts both instrumentalists and vocalists.

The group meets one day a week in Cypress Hall 159.  The final performance includes jazz and pop standards, vocal ballads, and student arranged and original pieces performed to picture.

Most of our arrangers are media composers in the Commercial and Media Writing Option. These student composers work closely with the faculty on instrumentation and style in order to achieve their musical goal through their scores.
