SUN Program

Welcome to our College of Education Self-care Initiative, informally called Self-care for U at Northridge, the SUN Program.

It is so wonderful that you are considering self-care as an important way to care for yourself and keep balance and health in your life. Self-care means taking responsibility for yourself to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle at work and in your personal world through individually determined, proactive activities. You are at your best when you attend to yourself in equal measure to others in day-to-day living!

Self-Care: Dealing with War Anxiety

Just when we thought we has seen the worst crises in years with the waves of the pandemic, and anti-Black racism, we are witnessing yet another crisis, the Russian attack on Ukraine.   It is very understandable that this situation can cause anxiety and trauma. Nature, whether viewing nature, walking in nature, or even watching nature films, can help reduce anxiety, stress, emotional exhaustion, and sleeplessness associated with COVID. Self-Care: The importance of connecting with others

One of the most important ways to engage in self-care is through social support. Positive social connections with others has been shown by research to help us through difficult times, reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and increase physical and psychological well-being. In-person social time can come with a degree of anxiety due to the pandemic, but, when done safely, it also is the balm that will help us to heal and renew during this challenging time. Read more
