Self-Care: The importance of connecting with others

February 14, 2022

Dear College of Education Community,

One of the most important ways to engage in self-care is through social support. Positive social connections with others has been shown by research to help us through difficult times, reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and increase physical and psychological well-being. In-person social time can come with a degree of anxiety due to the pandemic, but, when done safely, it also is the balm that will help us to heal and renew during this challenging time.

This week, members of our college community come together in-person once again after 2 long years. According to an article in Campus Well, an online newsletter, “Having solid social support means having people you can go to when you need to talk—which has become more important than ever over the past year. Between the weight of the COVID-19 pandemic and difficult but necessary conversations about race and politics, having real-life, in-person social support has a profound impact on us.”

May we enjoy the benefits of in-person social time with each other once again.

Warmly,

Shari
