Debra Lee, of Carson, has been appointed Chief of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health at the Department of Industrial Relations, where she has been Acting Chief since 2024 and has served in several positions since 1994, including Deputy Chief for Safety, Acting Deputy for Safety, Regional Manager, District Manager, Associate Industrial Hygienist and Industrial Hygienist. Lee was an Industrial Hygienist at Northrop Grumman from 1992 to 1994 and a Hazardous Waste Specialist at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources from 1990 to 1992. Lee was an Industrial Hygienist at Health Science Associates from 1987 to 1990 and for TRW Electronics and Defense from 1985 to 1987. Lee earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health from California State University, Northridge. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $202,368. Lee is a Democrat. -- Gov. Gavin Newsom
Hart District Appoints New Assistant Superintendent, Principal
Adam Barrios began working full-time with the Hart District in 2007 as a math teacher at Placerita Junior High School before moving on to work in number of administrative positions that prepared him for this next step in his career. Barrios worked as an assistant principal in the Pasadena Unified School District (2014-17) before returning to the Hart District as an assistant principal at Placerita and Sierra Vista junior high schools, and later at Valencia and Canyon high schools in that same role. His experiences at each of those school sites have helped to provide Barrios the invaluable understanding and knowledge to assess, identify, and address areas of need and growth at the school and student level. He is deeply committed to fostering an environment that nurtures the academic, social, cultural, and emotional growth of students. Barrios has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and a Master’s Degree from California State University Northridge in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. -- SCV News
LA500 2024: Karen Hofmann
Hofmann is the sixth president of ArtCenter College of Design, and the first woman in the role. She previously was ArtCenter Provost and served as chair of ArtCenter’s Product Design department. She began teaching at the college in 2002. She was given the Industrial Designers Society of America Education Award for her contributions to the field of industrial design education. Hofmann spent several years at Johnson Controls Automotive Systems Group in Advanced Design and Research and, for the last decade, has been teaching and consulting. She graduated from ArtCenter in 1997 with a B.S. in product design and has a B.A. in psychology from California State University – Northridge. -- Los Angeles Business Journal
