Santa Monica College Music Department to Host Free Piano Master Class

Dr. Lancaster teaches keyboard musicianship, piano ensemble, and keyboard literature as a member of the piano faculty at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). He is the author or co-author of more than 400 publications for piano students of all ages. His works include the Alfred Music Publishing series of piano method books used at SMC. Dr. Lancaster has led workshops for music teachers throughout the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. He was named a Signature Sinfonian by the national music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and his numerous awards and honors for excellence in teaching and guiding students include the Distinguished Alumnus Award and Outstanding Alumnus in Fine Arts Award from Murray State University, Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the California Association of Professional Music Teachers and the National Conference of Keyboard Pedagogy. Dr. Lancaster is a former professor of music at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, where he established the Master's and Doctoral programs in piano pedagogy. -- Culver City Observer

Peak-hour bus lanes coming to Roscoe Boulevard

Roscoe Boulevard's forthcoming bus lanes came about as part of the $180-million North San Fernando Valley Bus Rapid Transit project, which had originally called for the creation of a meandering bus rapid transit line connecting with Cal State Northridge along Nordhoff Street. However, Metro backed away from that plan in the face of faced opposition from residents along the project corridor. -- Urbanize LA

Sale Finishes in the Top 10, CSUN Places Sixth at Big West Championship

Golfstat Final Results LA QUINTA, Calif. - The CSUN men's golf team matched its low round of the championship for the second straight day with a round of 1-under 287 but remained in sixth place at the conclusion of the 2024 Big West Men's Golf Championship Tuesday at La Quinta Country Club. After posting the second-lowest team round of the day on Monday, the Matadors were among the low teams again on Tuesday but were not able to gain any ground in the team competition. -- BVM Sports

Keyboard player ADAM HERSH Releases "Tornado Watch," His 2nd Album

Hersh grew up in Castaic, CA. His mother is a piano teacher, and he began studying at the age of four. He went on to California State University Northridge (CSUN), where he began composing and earned a bachelor's degree in jazz studies. Hersh explains why he was drawn to composing. "Playing your own music gives you much greater freedom. You aren't working with someone else's concepts. There is no template to draw from. Unless your composition is very derivative, it allows you to express yourself with your own, unique voice." -- Jazz-Quad
