CSUN has appointed Mike Torie as the new Throws Coach for its track and field program. Los Angeles-Based Sound Designer, Composer And Scoring Mixer Michael Badal Fortifies His Studio With Solid State Logic ‘Hybrid’ Set-Up

Badal got a very early start in the business. While still in his teens, his dance music tracks caught the ear of DJ Tiësto, and in next to no time Badal was releasing EDM tracks under his own name while also mixing and remixing tracks by the likes of deadmau5, Kaskade and Timbaland. After graduating from film school at Cal State Northridge, he simultaneously fell into the world of audio post production, working on projects with major brands at 740 Sound Design. As Saturday’s concert performance of Randy Newman’s 1995 musical Faust came to an end, with a gospel choir belting out “Get on the Glory Train” and the Devil fleeing down the aisles of the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts, a shaft of heavenly light shown down on Randy Newman, seated in a wheelchair at the center of the hall. -- SF Classical Voice

The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for The Performing Arts (The Soraya) is an award-winning, state-of-the-art 1,700-seat theatre designed and built by HGA Architects and Engineers and opened in January 2011 as the Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC). Through a transformative gift by Younes and Soraya Nazarian, the venue was renamed The Soraya in 2017. Vibrant programming has served to establish The Soraya as the intellectual and cultural heart of the San Fernando Valley and its 1.8 million residents and as one of the top arts and culture venues in Southern California. William Chu: Making InConcert Sierra’s New Concert Hall Sound Beautiful

While wrapping up his graduate degree, William and a classmate entered a student competition and he received first place from the Acoustical Society of America, whose members are academics, researchers and practitioners. He then met a California acoustician who hired him and became William’s mentor. William worked for that acoustics firm for fourteen years, during which time they worked on the Soraya Performing Arts Center at California State University, Northridge, the Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara, and the Geffen Playhouse, among other big projects. -- YubaNet
