CSUN Women’s Soccer shows promise in 2-1 exhibition loss to California Baptist

CSUN Women’s Soccer suffered a 2-1 defeat in an exhibition match against California Baptist. Paige Califf scored the lone goal for CSUN in the 77th minute, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a two-goal deficit. CSUN fought back late in the game, creating chances to equalize, but were unable to convert. Despite the loss, the team showed signs of organization defensively and will continue to work on their performance. They have one more exhibition match against Hope International before the season starts. -- BVM Sports

CSUN Graduate Taylor Thames Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

CSUN graduate Taylor Thames has been named one of the two Big West nominees for the 2023 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Thames, a two-sport athlete and a leader off the field, served as CSUN’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee co-president and was involved in various organizations promoting diversity and inclusion. Thames hopes to inspire young women in sports to dream big and use their voices for change. In addition, she excelled as a goalkeeper in women’s soccer and competed as a sprinter in track & field. The NCAA Woman of the Year program recognizes the academic achievements, athletic excellence, community service, and leadership of graduating female college athletes. -- BVM Sports

Ventura makes it official with Bill Ayub as city manager

Ayub was Ventura County sheriff for more than four years until he lost the June 2022 election to Jim Fryhoff and concluded his career on Jan. 2. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from CSU Northridge and a master's degree in emergency services administration from CSU Long Beach. -- Ventura County Star

Retired Educators Supporting Next Generation with Scholarships

The Glendale division of the California Retired Teachers Association, or CalRTA, funded eight scholarships for students in the Michael D. Eisner College of Education Credential Program at California State University, Northridge.
