This artist aims to prove Valley haters wrong with DIY ‘performative’ tours of the region

Hernandez developed the tour for his junior year exhibition at CalArts. The first tours took place in fall 2019, with friends and friends of friends as passengers. Hernandez was inspired by the catalog from a 2014 exhibition, “Valley Vista,” at Cal State Northridge, as well as the “fearlessness and interactivity” of performance artist Andrea Fraser and the “everyday target audience” of artist David Hammons. Since 2019, he’s led about half a dozen tours in all. Which isn’t a lot, he admits, noting that he took a two-year break during the pandemic. “And it is five hours,” he adds. “Plus, there’s not that much interest in taking a tour of the Valley, given its reputation.” -- Los Angeles Times

A guy from grad school was seriously into me. But did I even have time to date?

After about a year, my two friends, who later became a couple, and I took the entrance exams for grad school, completed long applications, gathered transcripts and analyzed tuition costs. We enrolled in classes together at Cal State Northridge, deciding that if any of us needed help, we would be there to support one another. -- Los Angeles Times

Legendary coach Dennis Erickson stars in a new book about Cougar football, alongside his old childhood friend, Mike Price

When Jack Elway arrived at Cal State Northridge in 1976, he enrolled his young son, John, at Granada Hills High School. John Elway had been a linebacker as a middle schooler in Pullman [while his dad coached at WSU], but his father saw his son's ability to pass and convinced him to try the quarterback position when they moved to California. As Jack Elway was building the Northridge program, his son was learning a wild new offense with Neumeier as his coach at Granada Hills. John Elway turned out to be a perfect fit as a quarterback in Neumeier's system. -- Inlander
