Freshman Solorzano scores first career goal to secure 1-1 draw for CSUN against Ohio State

In their 2023 opener, Ohio State tied with CSUN as freshman Jorge Solorzano scored his first career goal with 20 seconds remaining in the second half. The teams played a scoreless first half before Shaun Ryan broke the seal for the Buckeyes with a header in the 67th minute. CSUN was down a man after Martin Palinic received a red card in the 82nd minute. Ohio State outshot CSUN 15-4, but CSUN goalkeeper Cooper Wenzel made four saves to secure the tie. CSUN’s Dorottya Telek and Jakob Simons named Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year

CSUN’s Dorottya Telek and Jakob Simons have been named the Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday. The Big West Academic Honors celebrates student-athletes who excel in academics, athletics, and community service. Telek, a senior on the women’s water polo team, holds multiple records and has been actively involved in community service. Simons, a graduate student on the baseball team, had an outstanding season and has been recognized for his academic achievements and contributions to campus events. Both Telek and Simons represent a group of over 2,300 student-athletes who made the Commissioners Honor Roll. -- BVM Sports
