Joshua Heath | My Platform: More Laws for Santa Clarita

“I am so blessed to finally receive my bachelor’s degree from CSUN with honors. It has been four years of hard work and dedication. However, I’m still struggling enormously with male pattern baldness. All the stress from studying clearly had an impact on my hairline. At 22, I should be in the prime of my life, a young lion ready to enter the world. Instead I look like Al Lewis from the Munsters.” -- Santa Clarita Valley Signal

She hopes to make a deep impact within the community and inspire students to follow their greatest passions. -- Discover Los Angeles

The legendary Martha Graham Dance Company turns 100 in 2026. The celebration starts now

It’s also an apt ethos for the Martha Graham Dance Company, especially as it nears its 100th anniversary in 2026. While planning the celebration of the milestone, Eilber and the company’s executive director, LaRue Allen, had to be intentional in revisiting Graham’s own history and honoring the longest-running dance company in the nation. The result is Graham100, a three-year celebration that starts this fall at the Soraya on the Cal State Northridge campus. -- Los Angeles Times

From LA to OC, Asian night markets draw thousands over a common language: Food

Events such as FoodieLand Night Market in Pasadena and San Diego, KTOWN Night Market in Koreatown, the Taste of Japan in Anaheim and Little Saigon’s Asian Garden Night Market in Westminster have exploded in size and popularity and draw big crowds. Universities have gotten in on the trend as well, with schools like the University of Southern California, San Diego State University, Cal State Northridge, and UC Irvine starting their own night markets on campus. The big ones are concentrated in the summer, but others “pop up” year around. -- Los Angeles Daily News

This artist aims to prove Valley haters wrong with DIY ‘performative’ tours of the region

Hernandez developed the tour for his junior year exhibition at CalArts. The first tours took place in fall 2019, with friends and friends of friends as passengers. Hernandez was inspired by the catalog from a 2014 exhibition, “Valley Vista,” at Cal State Northridge, as well as the “fearlessness and interactivity” of performance artist Andrea Fraser and the “everyday target audience” of artist David Hammons. Since 2019, he’s led about half a dozen tours in all. Which isn’t a lot, he admits, noting that he took a two-year break during the pandemic. “And it is five hours,” he adds. “Plus, there’s not that much interest in taking a tour of the Valley, given its reputation.” -- Los Angeles Times

A guy from grad school was seriously into me. But did I even have time to date?

After about a year, my two friends, who later became a couple, and I took the entrance exams for grad school, completed long applications, gathered transcripts and analyzed tuition costs. We enrolled in classes together at Cal State Northridge, deciding that if any of us needed help, we would be there to support one another. -- Los Angeles Times
