SUN Program

Welcome to our College of Education Self-care Initiative, informally called Self-care for U at Northridge, the SUN Program.

It is so wonderful that you are considering self-care as an important way to care for yourself and keep balance and health in your life. Self-care means taking responsibility for yourself to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle at work and in your personal world through individually determined, proactive activities. You are at your best when you attend to yourself in equal measure to others in day-to-day living!

The holiday season reminds us that kindness is an important act of self-care for both others and ourselves. Evidence shows that helping others can also benefit our own mental health and wellbeing. Self-care and supporting our transgender community

Self-care includes a commitment to the wellbeing of all of us, including our transgender community, to live free from violence, fear, and discrimination. We continue to witness attacks on our transgender community. Last week our college Equity and Faculty Affairs Committee sponsored a Social Justice Dialogue with Dr. Julie Vitale, Superintendent of Oceanside School District, who presented the challenges that LGBTQ K-12 students face, with a very moving video about a transgender student. Our various College of Education professional organizations affirm safeguarding our LGBTQI+ community in each organization’s ethical and professional standards. Read more
