CSUN Sends its First Deaf Studies Intern to Washington, D.C.

Deaf studies junior Ana Maritza Rivera is a shining example of Matador students and faculty who are driven to serve the Deaf and Latina/o communities. In spring 2019, Rivera will make CSUN history when she goes to Washington, D.C., to participate in the CSUN in D.C. Internship Program and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Internship Program. Rivera is the university’s first Deaf studies major to participate in the internship. Article from CSUN Today

Ed Tech MA Alumna Chosen as GoldCoast CUE Teacher of the Year

Verity Ollif, Secondary Education alumna in Educational Technology and Oxnard Union High SD, was recently chosen as the GoldCoast CUE Teacher of the Year! “Verity is an outstanding teacher who leads by example with technology, especially in using ed tech in the pursuit of true mastery grading in the high school English classroom. John Reveles Receives $250k FEDCO Grant to Mentor Male Teachers of Color in Compton

CSUN has partnered with UC Berkeley and the Compton Unified School District to launch a three-year pilot program to improve the retention rates of male teachers of color. “We are very lucky to be working with such a forward-thinking school district like the Compton Unified School District, which recognized that we, as a society, have a problem recruiting and then retaining male teachers of color,” said CSUN elementary education professor John Reveles. Officials with the Compton USD said they were looking forward to collaborating with Reveles and his colleague Dr. Travis J. Bristol, a faculty member at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education, to create an environment that provides the kind of support that encourages men of color to stay and thrive in the teaching profession. Article from CSUN Today
