Farrell Jude Webb Obituary

In July 2016, he became Professor and Dean of College of Health and Human Development, California State University-Northridge, where he led nine departments (Child and Adolescent Development, Communication Disorders and Sciences, Environmental and Occupational Health, Family and Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Recreation and Tourism Management), 300 faculty, and over 7,000 students in 24 undergraduate and graduate programs, with an annual budget of $22.5 million. There he increased minority faculty by 800%, research grants by over 400%, and research publications by 35% while dealing with the effects of the COVID pandemic and developing a new strategic plan for the College. -- Legacy

CSUN Track and Field Thorw Trio Set to Sparkle at 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials Live on NBC

CSUN will have three representatives at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon, with events starting Thursday. Junior Chase Mars and senior David Phillips, Jr. will compete in the men's 200m dash while junior Trey Knight participates in the men's hammer throw qualifying round on Friday. The Trials' evening sessions will be on NBC, and all events will stream on Peacock. -- BVM Sports

Remembering Mark Cooley: CSUN Basketball Star and Hall of Famer’s Legacy Lives On

CSUN Athletics is mourning the passing of former basketball player Mark Cooley, a Matador Hall of Famer, who passed away on May 4th. Cooley, inducted into the CSUN Athletics Hall of Fame in 1985, had an impressive career at San Fernando Valley State College from 1964-67, setting records and earning accolades in basketball. -- BVM Sports

The Science of Food Safety: Spotlight on Candace Cole

Throughout high school, Cole prioritized taking extra science classes, and by the time she got to California State University, Northridge (CSUN), she was set on majoring in biology. But an upper division immunology class helped Cole realize that she wanted to be more involved in research. “My immunology professor highlighted current research, and we learned lessons about how research is being applied to different topics that we were studying in immunology,” she recalled. “It also helped that she was openly gay. [I could see] openly gay scientists doing research. I could see myself doing that, because she's doing it.” -- American Society for Microbiology

CSUN Softball Team Achieves Record 17 NFCA Scholar-Athlete Awards in 2023-24

CSUN Softball team had 17 members honored as NFCA Scholar-Athletes for academic excellence during the 2023-24 school year, setting a program record. Eligibility for the award required a 3.5 cumulative GPA, with the team achieving a 3.59 GPA. Some players received the Scholar-Athlete award for the third time, while others were honored for the second time. -- BVM Sports
