Last month, the Oasis Wellness Center of the University Student Union (USU) hosted its largest event of the fall semester, Welcome to Wellness. The event encouraged Matadors to relax and recharge with self-care activities, refreshments, and vendor booths.

With new massage chairs, nap pods, virtual reality guided meditation, and free pizza, the occasion drew quite the crowd. The biggest hit of the day was aroma blending, in which students designed their own aromatherapy mixture of essential oils to take home.

“I’m really excited that we are introducing students to alternate modalities and devices that could potentially become permanent offerings,” said Condor, manager of the Oasis Wellness Center. “But what I enjoy the most is collaboration between campus partners.”

Upon entering the Oasis, attendees were greeted by an assortment of campus organizations that offered information about the Klotz Student Health Center, University Counseling Services, “CSUN with A Heart,” hunger, homelessness, and emergency aid. Campus Care Advocates provided resources about emergency and ongoing services for victims and survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, and harassment.

Students who visited vendor booths earned entries into a drawing to win exciting wellness-related prizes. Prizes included an essential oil diffuser, a weighted blanket, a yoga blanket, and finally a pair of noise cancelling headphones.

“It’s an opportunity for the Oasis to expose students to new things in the world of wellness,” Condor said.

The event also was a chance for Oasis staff to see which wellness features were the most popular among students. To keep program offerings fresh and exciting for future Matadors, officials plan to broaden the Oasis’ range of services after reviewing event feedback.
