CSUN Community Joins the SRC’s 10th Anniversary Celebration

March 21, 2022

The Student Recreation Center (SRC) of the University Student Union (USU) celebrated its 10-year anniversary with the SRC@10 Celebration on Feb. 23. Special guests and students arrived to commemorate the milestone and learn what the facility offers the CSUN community.

Attendees snagged free goodies and entered giveaway raffles while learning about the recreation center, Oasis Wellness Center, Associated Students (AS) Sports Clubs, and the Games Room.

“I just enjoy the free stuff,” said Leslie, an SRC member and CSUN student. “I come here almost every morning and as they were setting up and I was leaving. I was like, ‘Man I gotta come back.”

SRC staff expressed excitement about sharing the festivities at the in-person event. Ariel Pasion, the SRC’s fitness programs coordinator, said she looked forward to introducing more of the CSUN community to the SRC’s services and resources.

“Honestly, I just hope that everyone is able to come here and join this event so that way they can be more informed about what the SRC and CSUN has to offer and be more involved during this spring semester,” said Pasion. “We are here for the students and we want them to have a great experience at the SRC.”

Alumni who enjoyed the facility as students and now work for the facility said they were happy about the milestone. Bladimir Martinez, the AS’s sports club coordinator, reflected on the SRC’s accomplishments over the years.

“I can’t believe that the SRC is 10 years old already,” said Martinez. “I was here as a student and now I’m here as a full-time staff. I get to experience both sides. This is a great place for our students as well as a great workplace. I’m grateful to be a part of it and I look forward to the next 10 years.”

Leo, a CSUN student and SRC member, shared one conversation that he had with friends who are not registered students about the facility’s offerings

“I think it’s pretty cool, it’s showing CSUN’s pride,” said Leo. “I’ve told people that I go to CSUN and they’re like ‘Oh cool! You guys have a really cool gym.’”

Matadors are invited to join the celebrations throughout the spring semester as each SRC department hosts a variety of special events. For more information about SRC@10, please visit csun.edu/src/src-at-10.
