StrengthUnited Supports Our Community Through Crisis

StrengthUnited provides intervention, prevention, and outreach services to thousands of children, adults, and families throughout our community, and hundreds of CSUN students have received their undergraduate and graduate training there. When COVID-19 pandemic turned our world upside down, StrengthUnited quickly adapted in order to continue providing 24/7 crisis services, and expanded their work to meet the growing need and reduce factors known to contribute to abuse and maltreatment. Child Advocacy Center News: Governor signed AB 2741 (Rubio)

As a proud certified Child Advocacy Center, we are happy to announce that on September 30, 2020, Governor Newsom signed AB 2741 (Rubio), a bill that creates statutory requirements for children’s advocacy centers (CAC). These requirements clarify what services must be provided to qualify as a CAC. This historic move helps ensure that abused children receive the specific services they need for healing and justice, minimizes re-traumatization to hurt children, improves investigations into allegations of child abuse, and decreases investigational costs.  Read more

Survivors of Domestic Violence experience not only physical injuries, but also financial hardship, mental health issues, and chronic lifetime health problems. And the current pandemic has exacerbated all of the stressors that can cause violent abuse. Throughout October, we will be raising funds to support our work with survivors of Domestic Violence. In response to racial injustice, civil unrest, and the Black Lives Matter Movement, StrengthUnited in collaboration with The Wellness Institute, and UrbanPromise LA have joined forces to provide a 4-part series via Zoom for the Canoga Park community and surrounding neighborhoods. The goals are to take action, raise awareness, and process racial injustice and its impact on our community from their home.  We are calling this Change 4 Community: Moving Towards Solidarity.
