Fatmana Kara Deniz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Special Education. Her research focuses on three main areas: (1) understanding teachers’ perceptions of cognitive autonomy-supportive teaching, (2) investigating evidence-based practices to support the development of cognitive autonomy skills for children/youth with and without disabilities and for whom English is not their first language, and (3) training teachers to use evidence-based practices to enhance student cognitive autonomy skills within the MTSS Framework.
Prior to joining the CSUN faculty, Dr. Deniz worked as visiting Assistant Professor at University of Nevada Las Vegas where she also received her doctorate in Special education. Her other experience include teaching at the elementary and middle school level with, students with disabilities, general education students, Dual Language Learners, and students with gifts and talents.
