Program of Study

Project scholars will complete coursework and fieldwork toward a Preliminary Education Specialist Credential in the area of ECSE. The Preliminary program is a two-year, 42-unit program and is composed of 30 units of coursework and 12 units of fieldwork experiences.

Project scholars can enter the preliminary program through two pathways: (1) traditional students, including CADV seniors, and (2) interns. Traditional students take courses and complete supervised fieldwork under the direction and guidance of university faculty and mentor teachers. Interns are on-the-job teachers who have been hired by a school district as the ‘teacher of record’ and who are completing coursework toward their preliminary credential while employed as a teacher, and university faculty work collaboratively with on-site support providers identified by the district. Scholars in both pathways take the same courses and are held to the same standards.
