Fullerton (16-10, 9-3) is in the driver’s seat having just knocked off the reigning champion, but UCSB (19-9, 6-3) can’t be counted out. Marisa Alcaraz, Imelda Padilla in Runoff for Council District 6

The 35-year-old Padilla was born in Van Nuys and raised in Sun Valley, graduating from Roscoe Elementary School, Byrd Middle School and Polytechnic High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree from Cal State Northridge. -- Los Angeles Sentinel

But her higher education career started in 1989, at CSUF, where she was an assistant professor of child and adolescent development. She held several administrative roles, including associate vice president for undergraduate programs, and was ultimately promoted to professor at CSUF. Alva also served as the dean of the College of Health and Human Development for Cal State Northridge. -- The Orange County Register

Rafael de la Rosa is the director of advocacy at the Hospital Association of Southern California. He was previously the assistant vice president for government and community relations at California State University, Northridge. Before sitting on the panel for the Zócalo program “What Do We Want From the Next L.A.
