TVCC instructor has book published

E. Michael Young grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earned a BA in history from California State University in Los Angeles, a masters in history from Cal State, Northridge and a masters in political science from Texas State University in San Marcos. He previously taught history and government at Navarro College, LeTourneau University and Austin Community College. Young loves to travel overseas and across America, has a goal of visiting all 50 states before his son reaches eighteen years of age, and currently has visited 25 states. The Top 100 Degrees Conferred

Diverse Issues in Higher Education compiled a list of the top 100 colleges and universities that confer degrees to minorities. CSUN ranked 30 in Asian-American bachelor's degrees in all disciplines, 7 in Hispanic bachelor's degrees in all disciplines, 13 in total bachelor's degrees awarded minorities, 78 in master's degrees to Asian-Americans, 22 in master's degrees to Hispanics and 67 in master's degrees to minorities in all disciplines. -- Diverse Issues in Higher Education

L.A. Metro Celebrates the 1,500th Student to Receive Universal Transit Pass

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board Chair John Fasana and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti were recently joined by other local dignitaries and students from Cal State Northridge (CSUN) in celebrating the 1,500th CSUN college student to receive a Metro U-Pass as part of the agency’s two-year pilot program to make it easier and cheaper for college students to buy transit passes. -- Mass Transit Magazine

SMC Grad Awarded Smart Scholarship by US Department of Defense

Santa Monica College graduate and veteran Jonathan Eady was awarded a U.S. Department of Defense SMART Scholarship and has transferred to study at California State University-Northridge to study Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Mechatronics and Robotics. -- Santa Monica Observer

Metro Offers Local Students Discounted Fares

A Metro monthly pass at regular price is $100, but students who obtain the discount sticker would only pay $43, according to The Source. Furthermore, some schools like Cal State Northridge, are allowed students to purchase the student fare pass on their registration web portals. -- Pasadena Now

San Fernando Valley taxpayers haunted by ghost trains and invisible buses: Susan Shelley

It’s another example of the bait-and-switch that has been pulled on taxpayers over and over again. After three half-cent sales tax increases for transit since 1980, it can take an hour to catch a north-south bus in the Valley and we have invisible double-articulated buses on the Orange Line. Equally invisible: transportation improvements to serve the campus community at CSUN. For years, Metro wouldn’t even align its bus schedule with the university’s night classes. -- Los Angeles Daily News
