CSUN Women’s Volleyball Continues Momentum with Two Matches in Orange County

The CSUN women’s volleyball team is heading to Orange County for two matches this week. They will face off against the Cal State Fullerton Titans on Friday and the UC Irvine Anteaters on Saturday. After a thrilling five-set win over Long Beach State last Saturday, the Matadors are looking to continue their momentum on the road. CSUN Suffers Last-Minute Loss to UCSB on Late Penalty Kick

CSUN suffered a 1-0 loss to UC Santa Barbara in a close match that was decided by a late penalty kick. Despite outshooting their opponents in the first half, CSUN couldn’t find the back of the net. UCSB had some good chances as well, with Dylan Lewis coming close in the 43rd minute. In the second half, both teams had opportunities, but it was UCSB who capitalized on a penalty kick in the dying minutes. CSUN pushed for an equalizer but couldn’t find the back of the net. CSUN Coach Christine Johnson praised her team’s efforts but acknowledged that the game could have gone either way. CSUN will now prepare to face Cal Poly on Sunday. -- BVM Sports

Littlerock High adds 6 to its Alumni Hall of Fame

Transue is an Antelope Valley native who studied journalism at California State University, Northridge, and graduated from the University of Akron in 2015 with a degree in mass media/communications and a minor in photography. She won a student Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in the Lower Great Lakes region with her Akron After Hours Team at ZTV at the University of Akron. -- Antelope Valley Press

Texas coyotes caught on camera swiping watermelons from front yard

In 2020, the National Park Service and California State University Northridge researchers determined the canines have developed a taste not only for garbage, but also for fruits such as watermelon. The animals have even been known to attack domestic cats. The study found that human resources, such as garbage, ornamental fruits, and domestic cats, accounted for between 60 to 75 percent of urban coyote diets. -- MySA

Building pride | Woodland artist using art to empower youth and explore Chicano identity, history

Doyle-Martinez graduated high school in 2006 and played basketball at Sacramento City College. After two years, she transferred to California State University, Northridge and majored in Gender and Women's Studies with a focus on Chicano Studies. She said at that time, she wanted to know more about her family's history and her Indigenous roots in México. As of Fall 2022, California State University, Northridge (CSUN) enrolled about 36,000 students, 57% of whom identified as Latino, over 70% as first-generation college students with 60% from historically underrepresented groups.
