Santa Monica College Music Department to Host Free Piano Master Class

Dr. Lancaster teaches keyboard musicianship, piano ensemble, and keyboard literature as a member of the piano faculty at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). He is the author or co-author of more than 400 publications for piano students of all ages. His works include the Alfred Music Publishing series of piano method books used at SMC. Dr. Lancaster has led workshops for music teachers throughout the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. He was named a Signature Sinfonian by the national music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and his numerous awards and honors for excellence in teaching and guiding students include the Distinguished Alumnus Award and Outstanding Alumnus in Fine Arts Award from Murray State University, Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the California Association of Professional Music Teachers and the National Conference of Keyboard Pedagogy. Dr. Lancaster is a former professor of music at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, where he established the Master's and Doctoral programs in piano pedagogy. -- Culver City Observer

Peak-hour bus lanes coming to Roscoe Boulevard

Roscoe Boulevard's forthcoming bus lanes came about as part of the $180-million North San Fernando Valley Bus Rapid Transit project, which had originally called for the creation of a meandering bus rapid transit line connecting with Cal State Northridge along Nordhoff Street. However, Metro backed away from that plan in the face of faced opposition from residents along the project corridor. -- Urbanize LA

2024’s Top Film Schools in North America

With a campus near studio lots, Cal State Northridge students are in the heart of the industry. The school has a strong documentary department and under new documentary head Judy Korin (“Adrift,” “The Great Hack”), student documentaries have garnered national attention with finalists for the Student Academy Awards and PBS Fine Cut Festival of Films. Dave Caplan (“The Connors”) is heading up a new CSUN Cinema and Television Arts mentorship program for six underserved screenwriting students that places them with working showrunners to develop their own TV scripts. Talicia Raggs (writer/producer on “NCIS: New Orleans”) and music producer/engineer/scoring mixer Michael Stern (“Iron Man 2”) are new faculty members. -- Variety
