Big West baseball: Sahid Valenzuela having fine freshman season for Cal State Fullerton

Juniors Albee Weiss and Kevin Riley of CSUN have seven home runs apiece to lead the Big West, along with freshman Connor Cannon of UC Riverside. Weiss has a conference-high 34 RBIs, Riley is second with 29. But the fifth-place Matadors (17-20, 4-5) haven’t pitched well, as their team ERA of 5.10 attests. Only ninth-place UC Riverside (5.30) and seventh-place UC Irvine (6.10) are higher. … Junior Keston Hiura of UC Irvine continues to lead the Big West with a .424 average, but the Anteaters (13-20, 2-4) have won just two of their past 17 games after getting off to an 11-5 start. … Long Beach State (22-12, 7-2), ranked No. 12 by Baseball America, had its eight-game winning streak snapped Saturday with an 8-5 loss to visiting CSUN. -- Orange County Register

Cal State-Northridge graduate transfer Kendall Smith to visit CU Buffs

Early Monday afternoon ESPN's Jeff Borzello reported that Cal State-Northridge graduate transfer Kendall Smith is scheduled to visit CU on Wednesday. A 6-foot-3 guard, Smith averaged 16.7 points for the Matadors this past season while shooting .448 from the floor. -- Boulder Daily Camera
