Roxanne Arguelles 

Major/Minor: Accounting and Information Systems

Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2020

Hobbies/Interests: Collecting cactus, cats, reading, museums, DIY, interior design

Career Goals/Aspirations: Obtain my CPA, Masters in Accounting

In 10 years I see Myself…: Working for an accounting firm, focusing on helping and working with non-profit clients, and returning to campus to give back to the community who has given me so much.

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: Having a mentor to guide me through the process to recruiting with accounting firms, participating in events hosted by the Accounting Association, and simply making me aware of what i need to do to be successful has really helped me transition into life at CSUN.

 

 

Elizabeth Arrambula

Major/Minor: Nursing 

Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2019

Hobbies/Interests: When I am not studying, I like to try new things such as activities and food restaurants. I also like going to amusement parks. 

Career Goals/Aspirations: To work in the NICU and eventually become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. 

In 10 years I see Myself…: Working as a Nurse Practitioner and hopefully being able to go on medical missions to different countries. 

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: It has created a larger scope for me compared to other students who are not part of this program. Being paired up with a mentor who went through my situation has eased my transition into CSUN. 

 

Jesus Bustos 

Major/Minor: Accounting

Expected Graduation Date: 2020

Hobbies/Interests: Sports, wine, and working out

Career Goals/Aspirations: Accounting career, big 4 or private sector

In 10 years I see Myself…: financially stable with a job that I love. Owning a house and living with my wife and two beautiful kids.

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: The support that Creating Pathways has given me has been the best thing about CSUN. When things get hard in school I have support from others in the group along with my mentors.

 

 

Matthew Garcia

Major/Minor: Manufacturing Systems Engineering 

Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2020

Hobbies/Interests: Working on cars, hiking and metal fabrication 

Career Goals/Aspirations: To obtain a management position in engineering 

In 10 years I see Myself…: In a well-paying and stable job. Hopefully I still live in the valley. 

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: Abriendo Caminos has helped me find internship offers and build my resume. The mentors and tutors also help me choose my classes so I don't overload my semesters. 

 

 

Jeremy Gilbert 

Major/Minor: Animation 

Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2019

Hobbies/Interests: Video games, tabletop RPGs, anime 

Career Goals/Aspirations: Work at a major film studio. 

In 10 years I see Myself…: Animating a scene for an animated movie and supporting my family. 

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: It has helped me by helping me get the classes that I need and by pushing me to do my best in my major.

 

 

Ian Manzanilla 

Major/Minor: Accounting

Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2019

Hobbies/Interests: Hiking, gaming (PC and console), traveling

Career Goals/Aspirations: Become a full time in my firm and work my way up in a higher position

In 10 years I see Myself…: In a high ranking staff/manger at my CPA firm. Mentoring others or new staff in the office.

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: They have helped me get my classes though the benefit of having priority registration. Definitely the free rent of textbooks helped me get through my classes.

 

 

Joey Mendoza 

Major/Minor: Animation 

Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2019

Hobbies/Interests: Drawing, playing video games, watching animated shows (Steven Universe) 

Career Goals/Aspirations: To work on a kids animated show or make my own series. 

In 10 years I see Myself…: Married to my partner of 5 years and doing 2D animation professionally. Working on art on the side. 

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: They have helped me with partnering me up with a mentor and tutor who push me. The lending library was also helpful last semester. 

 

 

Luis Montes

Major/Minor: Marketing/Business Law 

Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2020

Hobbies/Interests: Photography, hiking and video games 

Career Goals/Aspirations: To pursue a Master's Degree and work in the digital marketing field. 

In 10 years I see Myself…: In a highly enjoyable career with acquired experience in the marketing industry. 

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: As a transfer student, starting at a new campus can be intimidating. My mentor has provided me guidance and introduced me to all the resources CSUN has to offer. The program has also helped me develop professional and leadership skills with its career guidance. 

 

 

Gabriela Vera 

Major/Minor: Management 

Expected Graduation Date: Spring 2019

Hobbies/Interests: Volunteering, hiking, running 

Career Goals/Aspirations: Become a Program Director. 

In 10 years I see Myself…: Working in a non-profit organization or in the public sector overseeing programs focused on the elderly or homeless community. 

How has Creating Pathways/Abriendo Caminos helped you transition into life at CSUN?: Abriendo Caminos helped me quickly become familiarized and comfortable in my new campus. My mentor was my first friend on campus and has been very helpful in my transition.
