Critical Studies

The philosophy of the Critical Studies faculty is based on the belief that skills in critical theory and thinking are essential survival tools in a world dominated by the profusion of mediated images, from cinema to video. Our Master of Arts program has been developed to prepare students for professional advancement in the areas of film, television, and video, for roles as scholars and teachers, theorists and critics of film, television and video, and for advanced media study and research, all vital to the health of a free society. Students using research and critical methods, study problems they might face professionally. They probe the professional, intellectual, moral, aesthetic, psychological, economic and social-political aspects of the media.
