New Benefit Rate as of July 1, 2011

Our cognizant agency, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Cost Allocation has approved our new benefit rates. The new rates will be charged to all sponsored programs for personnel costs incurred after July 1, 2011. Until then the current rates still apply. Please consider these new rates when preparing budgets for your future projects.

Rate 1: 8.8% (until 6/30/2011: 11.7%) for Employees Receiving No Benefits:

  • Student Assistants
  • Casual Appointments
  • Temporary Appointments
  • Salary
  • Salary
  • Hourly
  • Hourly

Rate 2: 15.8% (until 6/30/2011:16.8%) For Employees with Retirement Benefits Only:

  • Hourly > 2 years & > 1000 hrs/year
  • Casual Appointments > 2 years & > 1000 hrs/year
  • Eligible for, but declined Health Benefits

Rate 3: 30.1% (until 6/30/2011: 26.5%) For Employees with Health Benefits But Not Yet Eligible for Retirement (

  • Hourly - Fully Benefited
  • Salary > 6 month & 20 hours/week

Rate 4: 42.3% (until 6/30/2011: 40.2%) For Employees with Health Benefits And Eligible for Retirement (> 2Years)

  • Hourly - Fully Benefited
  • Salary > 6 month & 20 hours/week
