Advisement Alerts

It is important for psychology students to be aware of the following information.  If you have questions or don’t fully understand these components, please email us.

Our advisors are working remotely and available to assist students through phone or Zoom advisement. To schedule an appointment, please email: appointmentrequest@csun.edu  or call 818-677-2658 and leave a message.

  • Make sure to include your name, ID number, and days and times of the week that you are available. Please make sure to include a call back number.
  • Someone from our office will contact you to schedule your appointment. Additionally, if you have general questions you can also use the same email.

IF YOU DO NOT PAY YOUR TUITION BY THE DEADLINES, YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM YOUR CLASSES

If you are unable to pay the entire semester’s tuition, you may be able to set up a payment plan with Cash Services.  This may be easier than trying to re-register for classes when courses are scarce.

REGISTERING FOR PSYCHOLOGY COURSES WITH LABS

1. The lecture and the lab are two separate courses; you will need to register for both.
2. Make sure that you choose the correct lab portion that corresponds with the specific lecture you are registering for.
3. You will need to place both the lecture and the corresponding lab in the registration “shopping cart” before registering for the classes.  The system will not allow you to enroll in one without the other.
4. Still having trouble???  Some say that adding the lab section to the “shopping cart” before adding the lecture section fixes this situation.

CREDIT/ NO CREDIT:

For Psychology major requirements and General Education requirements, a letter grade is required. Speak with an advisor before opting for a Credit/No Credit grading option!

FINISHING INCOMPLETES

If you have been given an Incomplete in a class, do not re-register for that class in a following semester.  Work with the professor to complete the course material that was missing.  The professor then submits paperwork to have the Incomplete changed to a letter grade.  If you re-register for the course, your Incomplete will turn to an “F” after a year.  If this happens, the “F” and the new grade will both be on your transcripts.

REPEATING COURSEWORK AT CSUN

If you have received a grade of a C- or less in a course at CSUN, you are eligible to repeat the course for a better grade.  Under the CSUN Grade Forgiveness policy, students can repeat up to 15 units for full grade forgiveness. After that, repeated grades will be averaged in with the first attempted grades.  Although your GPA will reflect the better grade, the lower grade will stay in your record.

NOTE:  When repeating courses, you will need to register during non-restrictive registration (after all students have had registration appointments).

FINANCIAL AID

Students on financial aid are required to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) or else their financial aid may be disqualified.  Please review the SAP guidelines.

If you do not meet these guidelines please seek advisement in either the Psychology Advisement Office or the Student Services Center/EOP for College of Social & Behavioral Sciences (Sierra Hall 204).
