Laboratory Standard Training

Laboratory Standard training (includes hazardous waste) is the State of California and CSUN mandated safety training that applies to all principal investigators and research associates who work in a research laboratory. Research associates are defined as under/graduate students, unpaid/paid persons, volunteers, or any other designations.

All safety training is administered via a series of videos online (with accompanying quizzes) - see below.

 


Initial Safety Training (completed when you first join a research lab)

Please complete every video on this list:

  1. CSU- Laboratory Safety Fundamentals (150 mins)
  2. Department-specific video - not yet available

If you work in a lab that generates biological waste, you must additionally complete the following training:

  • Once you have finished, please send the certificates of completion to your PI as well as the department Chemical Safety Coordinator (Jeff Gabler) via email in PDF format.
  • Note: All certificates must be sent in before working in the laboratory.

 


Annual Refresher Training

Please complete every video on this list annually after your first training:

  1. Laboratory Safety Cal/OSHA (32 mins)
  2. Hazard Communication - Cal/OSHA (23 mins)
  3. Hazardous Waste Generator (RCRA) (25 mins)
  4. PPE: Personal Protective Equipment 2.0- Cal/OSHA (38 mins)
  5. Compressed Gas Safety (28 mins)
