Dimpal Jain, along with Co-PI’s Dr. Bocanegra (Student Success), Dr. Guan (Psychology), and Dr. Salgado (Psychology) were awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation entitled “HSI Planning Project: CSUN START” for nearly $400,000.  This grant is an extension of Dr. Jain’s work with the Badge Project, a program designed for transfer STEM students housed within the STEM Transfer and Research Training (START) office as part of the Health Equity Research and Education (HERE) Center.

Dimpal Jain was also recognized for her work with the Badge Project by being part of the team that received the Jolene Koester Team Award during the 2023 Staff Service & Recognition of Excellence Awards Event.  This award is presented to a team of university employees who collaborate on a project, process, or other significant initiative that brings about radical, positive change that improves performance or productivity and/or reduces costs or enhances the image of the University.

Dimpal Jain, along with co-authors Dr. Buenavista (Asian American Studies, Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership) and Dr. Ledesma (Educational Leadership, San José State University) presented their book First Generation Faculty of Color: Reflections on Research, Teaching, and Service (Rutgers University Press, 2022) at the 2023 National McNair Conference at UCLA. The McNair Research Scholars program is designed for first-generation and low-income students who are historically underserved in graduate school who aim to pursue a doctoral program.  The goal of the program is to increase the attainment of Ph.D. degrees by students from historically marginalized backgrounds. Every student who was registered for this conference received a copy of the book.
