I first joined the Matador family at CSUN for my undergraduate studies in Child Development in 1994, the year of the Northridge earthquake. Having grown up in the San Fernando Valley, I decided to further pursue my career in education by obtaining my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and later in 2010 for my Masters in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.
I believe that CSUN’s work is important because it prepares future educators to be better prepared for the demands of the classroom. Furthermore, the programs offered support credentialing students in various areas of specialty services for ongoing professional development and career advancement opportunities.
I joined the alumni board to pay it forward to future educators and to network with current educators for the betterment of our teaching practices and support one another in the various communities we serve in across Los Angeles. I started serving on the Education Chapter Alumni Board two years ago when it was first developed. Since then, I have organized and hosted the “Education in Action” event where speakers serving in different capacities in the Los Angeles School District share short vignettes of their everyday life on the job and the impact they each make in their communities. The inspirational event takes place annually and has proven to be insightful to attendees. As a chapter, we strive to provide opportunities for networking and informational events to support future and current educators. As I continue to serve on the board, I hope to inspire and continue to learn from fellow colleagues in the education field on ways to support student learning.
I encourage education alumni to join our chapter because together we strive to make an impact in students’ lives. Together we strive to make an impact in each other’s lives as educators by supporting one another and learning together. Lastly, together we strive to make an impact as Matadors with purpose.
We encourage all Michael D. Eisner College of Education graduates to join the Education Alumni Chapter and become part of a growing group of Matadors who gain access to wonderful benefits while supporting the next generation of CSUN alumni. Join Us (it’s free!) today.
