Update: CSU Travel Restrictions - AB1887 (Gov't Code Section 11139.8)

January 12, 2017

Update to the Email of January 12, 2017:

Certain exceptions to the AB 1887 travel restrictions may be granted on a case-by-case basis using the Request for Approval of Travel to Prohibited States Under AB 1887 Form. A detailed description and justification for any requested exception must be provided. In addition, written documentation validating the exception must be attached to the travel authorization prior to booking travel.

Dear Principal Investigators and Research Administrators:

This is an update of the email sent to you on December 1 (see below), implementing restrictions for  state-funded or state-sponsored travel. The California State University has issued the following travel prohibitions for business travel occurring on or after January 1, 2017.  State-funded or state-sponsored  travel to the following states is restricted:

  • Kansas
  • Mississippi
  • North Carolina
  • Tennessee

Travel restrictions to these states are a direct result of Assembly Bill 1887, approved by Governor Jerry Brown on September 27, 2016.

Details of the bill and exceptions may be found on the State of California Department of Justice   website.

 Regards,

 Georg
