New background check policy effective August 3, 2015

August 10, 2015

Please be advised that the CSU has modified the background check policy.  The new requirements will be effective August 3, 2015 and it is expected that auxiliaries follow this policy.

Requirements:

The policy will require that all new employees complete a background check prior to starting employment.  The policy will also require current employees who voluntarily transition to a different classification identified as “sensitive” and student assistants in “sensitive” positions to complete the background check.  Sensitive positions are identified on the attached document: Click here for form

Please note that anyone who has a written job offer prior to August 3, 2015 will not be subject to the terms of the policy.

The background check will include a minimum of four key components:

  • Criminal background check
  • Education check
  • Employment check
  • Reference check

For any person who will have direct contact with minors at a camp/clinic (or required by law), a LiveScan clearance will also be needed.

Cost:

We are in the process of working out the pricing with a third party vendor but we expect the cost to be between $76 and $130 depending in the type of background check needed.

Process:

A Background Check Request Form will need to be completed and attached to your Recruitment or Action Request Form for anyone hired after August 3, 2015. Click here for form

Please share this information with individuals in your department that coordinate hiring.  We understand that this will cause delays with our current process of hiring and ask for your patience as we adjust together to this new policy.
