Rembrandt and the Rabbis: Classical Rabbinic Interpretations in Rembrandt’s Biblical Scenes

Rembrandt, the great 17th century Dutch Calvinist artist, is famous for his portraits; but he also painted or etched many images of biblical stories.   Do his scenes from the Hebrew Bible reveal a pattern of borrowing from sophisticated rabbinic interpretations in the Talmud and Midrash?  If so, how did he obtain access to these esoteric sources?  Jerry Rabow will consider the evidence by examining some prominent artworks by Rembrandt together with their related biblical texts and ancient and medieval commentaries. Take Back the Night is a rally and march to end violence against women. Meet us at the Plaza del Sol at 6pm to hear Selina Carrera perform. Following her performance we'll have speakers, spoken word, monologues, poster making, and the Clothesline Project. At 7:30pm we'll light candles and march back the Women's Research & Resource Center where we will come together as a community to share our stories. Read more

CSUN's fashion design students bring their creations to life on the runway and produce a professional fashion show. 2017 marks the 38th year for this student-driven production. The TRENDS Annual Fashion Show highlights design through ambiance and fluidity on the runway and throughout the venue. It's a collaborative effort between TRENDS members, the Fashion Show Production class in Family and Consumer Sciences' Apparel Design and Merchandising program, and graduating student designers.
