Strength United, Executive Director Kim Goldberg-Roth, LMFT is honored to be a part of the Van Nuys Charities Leadership Cohort on Domestic Violence Prevention with some amazing leaders in the movement. Together we secured a 100k from Van Nuys Charities grant to fund a project researching the intersections of child welfare and domestic violence in Los Angeles County. The research will culminate in a series of recommendations and identification of national best practices to be shared with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The County is home to the largest child welfare system in the nation with 34,000 children currently under the supervision of DCFS.
This funding represents a unique change in funding policy, where traditionally the funder determines the focus and scope of work. In this case our Cohort succeeded in crafting a funding request designed by the participants with a focus on one of the most pressing issues of our time - the prevention of further trauma to children and families exposed to domestic violence. We commend the Van Nuys Charities board for their exceptional vision and support of this project.
