Dear Faculty and Staff in the Michael D. Eisner College of Education and the Campus Community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shari Tarver-Behring as Dean of the Michael D. Eisner College of Education effective December 1, 2019.
Shari Tarver-Behring served as the Interim Dean of the Michael D. Eisner College of Education since July 2017. Prior to her appointment as Interim Dean she was Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling in the Eisner College from 2008 to 2017. Dr. Tarver-Behring also previously served as Co-Coordinator of the School Counseling Program for 16 years. She has been a professor in the college since 1991, and has served on college governance, accreditation, university wellness, and personnel committees, including PPR. She was a consultant in the development of the Teaching, Learning, and Counseling Center in the College of Education. Shari served on the Council of Chairs for 8 years, including 2 years as Chair.
Under her tenure as Interim Dean she oversaw the successful reaccreditation from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) for 27 credential pathways. Dr. Tarver-Behring also led a re-examination of budgetary resources in light of regional and national enrollment changes.
Dr. Tarver-Behring earned her B.S. degree in Psychology from the University of South Dakota, her M.S. degree in Clinical Psychology from Marquette University, and her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology/School Psychology option from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is a CA. licensed psychologist, a National Certified Counselor, and holds a CA. Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling and School Psychology.
Dr. Tarver-Behring has served as Principle Investigator on grants totaling more than 7 million dollars and is the author/co-author of numerous publications in the areas of school consultation with diverse children and families, inclusion of students with neurodiversity in general education, and self-care in higher education.
