We are proud that the Michael D. Eisner College of Education remains one of the largest Colleges of Education in the CSU system, providing to our surrounding communities hundreds of outstanding new professionals in the fields of education, counseling, administration, and Deaf Studies. The Eisner College engages in transformative education and initiatives that put into practice our commitment to social justice, equity, access, and inclusion, and supporting the social-emotional well-being of university, school, and community members. I am grateful to our talented faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners, all instrumental in ensuring the excellence of our educational programs and community-serving centers. We have much to celebrate as we send forth our students to make positive contributions to our world!

UC/CSU California Collaborative for Neurodiversity and Learning

The rainbow infinity symbol of neurodiversity

In June 2019, the state of California established the UC/CSU California Collaborative for Neurodiversity and Learning as a new initiative focused on using emerging brain research to inform better practices for California’s children with learning differences. The goal of the Collaborative is to bring together resources and leading experts in neuroscience and K-12 education to strengthen educational support and new teaching methods for children with diverse learning needs, including children with dyslexia and literacy issues. Faculty and students from the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership will be presenting at the Hawai'i Student Success Institute March 6th, 2020 at the Hilton Hawai'i Village. The title of their presentation is “Fostering a First-Generation Professional Praxis: Narratives of First-Generation Faculty, Staff, Administrators and Scholars of Color in the Community Colleges. Power to the Transfer

ELPS faculty member Dimpal Jain, along with co-authors from UCLA Santiago Bernal Melendez and Alfred Herrera, have published a book with Michigan State University Press entitled Power to the Transfer: Critical Race Theory and a Transfer Receptive Culture.  The book focuses on the development and maintenance of a transfer receptive culture which is defined as an institutional commitment by a university to support transfer students of color.
