All hazardous waste must be properly disposed of through the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
Scheduling a Hazardous Waste Pickup
Step 1: Ensure all hazardous waste is properly stored, labelled, and prepared using the relevant information at the bottom of this page.
Step 2: Book a time and date for your hazardous waste pickup using the button below.
Step 3: Once your pickup is scheduled, use the Hazardous Waste Transfer Form so that EH&S can prepare for the pickup.
EH&S must receive a transfer form at least 48 hours before pickup. EH&S will contact you prior to pickup if any additional information or changes are needed.

Storing Hazardous Waste
The following applies to all hazardous waste. For more detailed information, reference the Hazardous Waste Management Program.
- ALL waste must be labelled.
- Ensure all waste containers are chemically compatible with their contents.
- Ensure all waste containers are securely closed.
- Ensure that there is at least two (2) inches of headspace in the liquid waste container to avoid gas buildup that could cause an explosion or container rupture.
- All liquid waste must be in secondary containment.
- Chemically incompatible waste must be stored in separate secondary containment.
Preparing Hazardous Waste for Pickup
In addition to the requirements above for storing hazardous waste, the following preparations must be made before scheduling a pickup. Improperly stored or prepared hazardous waste can pose unnecessary hazards to staff that handle or transport it, and may not comply with regulations. For these reasons improperly stored or prepared waste may be refused by EH&S until any issues are resolved. The EH&S office is available to assist with determining solutions.
- Palletized waste must be shrink wrapped and placed in a forklift or pallet-jack accessible area.
- 55-gallon drums must be in a location that can be accessed by a drum dolly with bungs securely closed and the hazardous waste labels visible.
- Smaller volume waste must be in secondary containment and staged on a wheeled cart if it will need to be transported a significant distance during the pickup.
- Hazardous waste must never be left unattended in an unsecure area for any length of time.
