CSUN faculty members with a background in assessment, research methods, and/or evaluation can join the CARE team and have the opportunity to work with principal investigators, community agencies, and external contractors earning unit release time and/or additional pay (which can be paid during regular and off semesters following the standard rules).

As a faculty team member, you can seek out your own projects to include under the CARE umbrella or have the team assign projects based on best fit to your skills and availability.

What are the advantages to joining the CARE Team?

  • General administrative support including assistance with scheduling meetings, travel, and project tracking
  • Having backup support of other evaluators (if you’re ill or otherwise needing an assist)
  • Being tapped into the latest news regarding research and grants as a branch of CSUN’s Research and Sponsored Programs office
  • The brand strength of being part of a campus center
  • Additional office space on campus for you or a student on your project
  • There are no additional costs to the project budget for including you under CARE rather than as an independent evaluator
  • You take the lead on your projects. Just keep the director and/or associate director up-to-date about the project’s general progress and activities

CSUN students with interests in gaining hands-on experience and training in the areas of assessment, research and evaluation can apply to work on a CARE project. Under the supervision of a faculty team member, student opportunities may include:

  • working directly with project PIs
  • reviewing research grant proposals
  • collecting data through surveys, interviews, and focus groups
  • performing quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • creating visualizations and/or presentations of findings
  • reporting/summarizing project data

CARE receives project proposals with submission deadlines throughout the year. Often an awarded project will have funds for a student to assist the team. By adding your name to our list and letting us know your skill set and your career goals, we will be able to reach out when projects become available.
