‘That’s such a Joe Kelly thing to do’: How Grover Castro’s mariachi jacket wound up in the White House

I started playing (the trumpet) when I was 13. I’m 23 now. I went to El Sereno Middle School in East L.A. That’s where this whole music dream started, really, with Ariel Legaspi. He was the one who cultivated that love for music, that driving passion for music in me. Anything I do music-related, I have to tie back to him. He’s the man that got me started. I will forever be grateful for that. After that, I went to Alexander Hamilton High School, a music academy out near Culver City. From there, I jumped over to Cal State Northridge and got my degree in music education. Then I started a music-education graduate program at USC, but due to some financial reasons I had to drop out, take a step back and re-evaluate my finances before I took on debt of that amount. -- The Athletic
