Jay Privman of DRF will retire at the end of Del Mar summer meet

Privman has been covering horse racing for over four decades. By the time he was in college at California State University, Northridge, he had decided that he wanted to write about horse racing. "I was interested in racing just because it appealed to me on a lot of different levels. I was always really good at math when I was in school, and all the different math aspects of racing appealed to me, in terms of the handicapping ... It was a fascinating puzzle to try and solve every half-hour. And that, over time, melded with my interest in journalism." -- Horse Racing Nation

Kimberley Clark Formally Announces Run for City Clerk Seat

Kimberley Clark, who currently serves as the Executive Assistant to the Board of Education and Superintendent for the Burbank Unified School District, has announced her candidacy to serve as the Burbank City Clerk. After graduating from John Burroughs High School, Kimberley received a B.A. in Honors English from California State University, Northridge, and an M.A. in Business Writing from Brunel University, London. She is a graduate of the 2014 Leadership Burbank class and a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks. An active community volunteer, Kimberley is a member of the Burbank Human Relations Council, serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC), and is a proud supporter of many nonprofit organizations in Burbank. In 2020 she received an Honorary Service Award from the Burbank Council PTA. -- My Burbank

Grant Geissman: BLOOZ AND MORE!

Geissman has explored bluesy territory since his early days recording and touring with flugelhorn great Chuck Mangione—an era highlighted by his now-iconic electric guitar solo on “Feels So Good,” Mangione’s 1978 mega-hit. The San Jose native was in his senior year at Cal State-Northridge majoring in classical guitar when a mutual friend recommended him for a gig with Mangione. The rest is a long, colorful history of touring and recording that culminated in Geissman’s critically acclaimed recording Cool Man Cool (2009), which featured Mangione performing with jazz legend Chick Corea on the Geissman composition “Chuck and Chick.” -- NoHo Arts District

Food drive for CSUN Food Pantry: The Community Concerns Committee at First Presbyterian Church of Granada Hills holds a non-perishable food drive to help stock the food pantry at Cal State University, Northridge, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 17 and 8:30-11:30 a.m. Sept. 18. The pantry benefits students who do not have much income for food while school is in session. Current needs: canned soups and other canned goods, pasta and dry boxed goods; also, hygiene items including soap, feminine products and shampoos. No glass containers or past date items. Remembering last Cal State Northridge football team 20 years after it folded

Like many Cal State University schools during the 1990s, the Cal State Northridge football team was forced to fold due to budget cuts. Nevertheless, players and coaches from that final Matadors squad still keeps in touch with each other, with some still working in football. González is a native born Angeleno and self-taught musician that resides in the City of El Monte with his wife and three sons. González serves on the boards of the Community Coalition, Center for Nonprofit Management, and ActiveSGV. He also serves on the Hispanic Scholarship Fund Advisory Council, Durfee School Site Council, and the City of El Monte's Planning Commission.
