Privman has been covering horse racing for over four decades. By the time he was in college at California State University, Northridge, he had decided that he wanted to write about horse racing. "I was interested in racing just because it appealed to me on a lot of different levels. I was always really good at math when I was in school, and all the different math aspects of racing appealed to me, in terms of the handicapping ... It was a fascinating puzzle to try and solve every half-hour. And that, over time, melded with my interest in journalism."
