Osan Jarekian - Osan graduated from Granada Hills Charter High School in 2020 and is currently a junior at California State University, Northridge, where she is majoring in Biology and Psychology as she prepares for medical school. Osan’s passion for giving back to the community is evident in her extensive volunteer work with both Armenian and non-Armenian organizations. --USA Armenian Life

Five people to join AV High Hall of Fame

DuPratt holds a bachelor’s degree in English from California State University, Northridge. She worked in the newsroom at the Antelope Valley Press for 28 years, starting as a part-time reporter/photographer and retiring in 2007 as associate managing editor. She was married to James V. DuPratt Jr., a Quartz Hill High School English and journalism teacher and member of the AV College Board of Trustees. He passed away in 1997. --Antelope Valley Press

New Exhibit Highlights the Urgent Need to Protect Joshua Trees

California State University, Northridge (CSUN) professor Jeremy Yoder hopes a new art exhibit, “Desert Forest: Life with Joshua Trees,” at the Lancaster Museum of Art and History will raise awareness about the threats facing Joshua trees. The exhibit, part of Getty’s PST Art initiative, features diverse artwork showcasing the iconic trees, with Yoder providing scientific expertise and contributing essays that explain their ecological importance and the challenges they face due to climate change. The exhibition highlights both the beauty and the vulnerability of Joshua trees in the Mojave Desert. --Planetizen

Shahverdi, who has resided on the island for the past decade, has more than 12 years of experience in municipal planning. She earned her urban planning degrees from UCLA and CSU-Northridge before beginning her career in Los Angeles. --The Island 360

‘Pick up a rake, get dirty, and then you’ll be protecting the land’

Isaac Michael Ybarra, a visual artist and storyteller, is Tongva, Chumash and Xicano. Grounded in his ancestral cultivation, he utilizes film, photography and poetry to amplify decolonial narratives and reclaim Indigenous pedagogies. He graduated from Cal State Northridge, where he learned to empower his community through coalition building and navigating bureaucracy. Today, he is a fellow for the California Creative Corps and a representative of the County in the 3rd district for the Youth Climate Commission. Through these roles, he is creating a film anthology on undoing erasure in L.A. County, reflecting a synergetic ecosystem that has thrived for thousands of years. --The Los Angeles Times
