Villela began her directing career in Josefina López’s directing workshop in response to the absence of Latina directors both on screen and on stage. Her passion for directing stems from her playwriting. Her short plays have been showcased in the Frida Kahlo 10-Minute Festival, Casa 0101 Theater’s Chicanas, Cholas y Chisme, Occupy the Heart and P.I.E. Story Theater, and Center Theater Group’s Chisme y Queso and Community Stories.
