She Started Flipping Burgers, Now She's The Boss At Six Flags Magic Mountain
Starting at the bottom: Weber was a 16-year-old high school student when she started working a summer job at Magic Mountain, flipping burgers at one of the park's fast-food joints. It was her fallback job after failing to land a retail gig. She stayed at the park while attending college at Cal State Northridge. By that time, she had been promoted to managing half of the park's food operations. Weber's career goal was to go into marketing. She left the park for brief stints to work in advertising and marketing, but Magic Mountain kept calling her back. "I never thought it would be a lifelong career, and here I am close to 30 years later," she said. "It's something that just gets in your blood." -- GVTC
Celebration Theatre presents HUSBAND MATERIAL as Part of its Celebrating New Works Series
STEVEN LEE (Playwright) Born in Washington D.C and raised in California. The mixture of East coast Presbyterian rigid values and protocol, mixed with the progressiveness of his youth later spent in seventies L.A., continually knit and weave into the conflicted themes in his work. Majoring in English at Cal State University in Northridge, California fine-tuned the themes-- and the skills to present those themes-- in the writing classes there. But joining a playwriting workshop at the Gay and Lesbian Center in West Hollywood caused Steven to focus mainly on theatre. It is there he wrote, produced, and directed a staged reading of his first full-length play, Diva Joan, a comedy. After that a semi-autobiographical play called, Chariot, was written and produced at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood. Steven has also done readings at The Second City Theatre in Hollywood. Steven currently resides in North Hollywood, California. -- Broadway World Los Angeles

Sex Work and Higher Education: A Mix of Disparate Identities
This is the first installment of interviews with speakers from the 2nd Annual AltSex NYC Conference, which was held on Friday, April 28 in a midtown NYC theater. Ute Anderson and Alexander Petro, two students at California State University, Northridge presented their groundbreaking research on student sex worker identities, a little-known and poorly understood population. Societally, we may be surprised to hear that many university students engage in sex work, as sex work is often unfortunately associated with pathology and criminality. Ute and Alex's research sheds light on the subjective experiences of sex workers, illustrating the commonplace experience of sex work as another valuable form of labor. -- Psychology Today
Could $499,000 in grants that help our soldiers be one reason Congress spared the NEA?

Meet the modern-day Pagans who celebrate the ancient gods
Dr. Sabina Magliocco, a folklorist at Cal-State Northridge, says that ADF founder Isaac Bonewits “was looking for a tradition that was rooted in history,” but soon realized that resurrecting an ancient religion was impossible. Reverend Michael Dangler, a senior ADF priest in Ohio, agrees. “We have rejected the fantasy of ancient lineages,” he says. “They are just not important from our personal practice perspective. We come out of a skeptical time.” -- Salon
