Jayson Newman, who set a league record for runs batted in, perpetrated an ice bath and cracked wise. The Cal State-Northridge player became a runaway fan favorite during his summer in Fayetteville. Newman batted .352, swatted 11 homers and drove in 56 runs, but with an answer indicative of the SwampDogs’ team-first philosophy, he demurred when talking of his success. -- The Fayetteville Observer - NC

CREATIVE ENERGY | The Arterie is a place for freedom of expression

Franke is a trained artist specializing in watercolor, with a strong emphasis on photorealism and printmaking. She also has a solid background in teaching. She studied art education along with art history at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and pursued graduate studies in both art education and the fine arts at California State University, Northridge. Her own art deals with the dichotomy of man and machine, often combining traditional subject matter (such as the human figure) into landscapes in mixed media formats on both small and large scales. Franke’s biggest influences (in art and teaching) are Georgia O’Keefe, Ed Ruscha and the German expressionists. -- Ventura County Reporter

She is a painter who works primarily in acrylics and spray paint on canvas and often utilizes stencils, which she makes herself, in order to create repeating patterns within her paintings. -- Cut Bank Pioneer Press - MT

Can the Valley’s Orange Line—the nation’s most successful BRT—get any respect?

Another disadvantage of converting to rail is a loss of flexibility. Dropping tracks locks in transit, while buses can always veer off the BRT line to make stops at new stations or points of interest. Matute says major destinations, such as Cal State Northridge, Burbank Airport, and other entertainment districts, could easily be connected to the Orange Line with feeder routes. -- Curbed Los Angeles
